A million thanks to all on the list who have assisted so far with our
ongoing floppy drive problem: I just recieved the test results from Nancy:
Here's what she found:
(She performed the tests on the original floppy drive and on the one we just
wasted our money on):
---
#2 The following tests are done on both floppy drives
-Booted on Harddrive
Techtool Pro Test results ( 4 parts)
Clean Drive - Passed
Quick Test - Passed
Read Test - Passed
Write Test - Failed
-Booted on OS 7.6
Techtool Pro Test results ( 4 parts)
Clean Drive - Passed
Quick Test - Passed
Read Test - Passed
Write Test - Passed
When booted from Umac System 7.6 CD Both Old and new floppy drives work
the same. The same size file (1mb file) copyed to and from 10 floppy
disks. both from the hard drive and then from the CD rom. 10 out of 10
copied with no trouble.
---
So much for the replacement drive helping: Is someone sure that we have to
use the "Zero All Data" option if we reinitialize the hard drive? Seems to
me we tried using this once before and it took forever; So long in fact
that we cancelled it.
-But it is an IDE drive, so do we have to use that method???
Again, many thanks for all the help.
Mike
