the computer saw it, but said it was "unsupported." I suspect that this =
is
because, if I understand this correctly, this hard drive has no internal
termination, but rather, relies on termination from the =

If you're using the copy of Apple HD SC Setup included in the System = 7.5.3 Disk Tools, then it will refuse to work on any drive that isn't = Apple-branded. You're not SOL yet though.
Verify that your copy of Apple HD SC Setup is version 7.35
Download this patch:
http://public.www.planetmirror.com/pub/info-mac/_Disk_&_File/apple-hd- sc-=
setup-7
35-patch.hqx
If you don't have a copy of Apple HD SC Setup version 7.35, you can get =
one
here:
http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/ Apple_Software_Updates/=
English
-North_American/Macintosh/Utilities/Apple_HD_SC_Setup_7.3.5.sea.bin
That ought to fix the whole unsupported business.

I tried both of those links and they were dead ends. Did you mean 7.5.3 rather than 7.35? Thanks, again.
