Maybe you could try reinstalling Iomega disk tools? I wonder if the driver has gone bad.

The little Zip 100 drives themselves have a design flaw that causes them to make the "click of death," sometimes shortly into their life span. When the click of death occurs to the drive, it will ruin that disk and all other disks associated with the drive (don't ask me how). If you put a disk into a new zip 100 that was previously used in a zip drive that started making the click of death, it will ruin the new drive, too.

Iomega readily admits this problem and will replace the bad drive and all of your zip disks for free (the cost of shipping to them). They replaced 2 drives for me and about a dozen 100 MB disks. The technician at Iomega support may ask you to put the phone by the drive to hear the clicking noise (it will click loudly a couple of times then hum). Of course, you have to send them your old drive and all of your disks.

Hopefully, your Iomega driver is corrupt. If the drive itself is going bad they will operate sporadically so try again once in a while..Otherwise, I don't know what neck of the woods you call home, but here in California there is a franchise called Kinko's that will rent you time on their bank of Macs. The macs have zips and all the peripherals for imputing data. If you can find a place like that, it would be worth a try to see if it won't mount over there.

As for my Zips, they are sitting in a box. I found them to be fairly easy to swap parts around in so I started shopping ebay, buying drives with no power supplies or that were listed as bad and making good ones. The only one I use now is an internal Zip that I have in the opening just above my floppy drive on my S900.

Be careful to note where all the little parts go if you decide to open one up. Make sure you have a lot of light and don't be in a hurry.

Good luck with your data recovery.

Hello,

What can I do when a Zip Disk I having using becomes
unreadable? I have important information I need to retrieve.
I insert the disk into the Zip Drive and the computer freezes.
I have to restart the computer and unplug the zip drive to eject the disk.
Any suggestions on how I can get my computer to see the zip disk on my destop/read it again?
