I got lucky once on OS 8.1 using Norton Disc Doctor to retreive some info
off a known good zipdisc that was asking to be initialized.  Norton
retreived the info (Claris Works) just fine.  
But the system worked fine with or with out the offending zipdisc
installed, just couldn't access it.
