I've been wrestling with getting my 900 and the internet off and on for
about a month. I have a G4/400 with a USB card and am running OS 10.2. I
bought a Best Data model 56USBP modem to hook up through my powered USB hub. I
share the hub with my C600 running OS 8.6 through a switch. The
modem works fine with the 600. It won't work with the 900. I've checked with
BestData. They are shocked that it works on my OS 8.6 drive. It shouldn't
work with anything less than 9. They say I've installed everything correctly.
They are puzzled.
I checked with my ISP. The numbers in my connect panel are correct. when
I use the same numbers with the C600 it works fine. When I call the same
numbers with a phone I get a carrier sound. When I use the S900/10.2 the
modem gets a busy signal from one of the numbers and a phone co. message from
the other saying the call can't be completed.
I think the 900 is dialing numbers other than what I've put into the
connect panel. Is there anyone out there who can help me out with this? I
want to make the 900 my main computer and give the 600 to my son, but not till
I'm hooked to the internet.
Will the 900/10.2 recognize and use a serial modem? Are there any other
kinds besides serial and USB that would work?
any help would be greatly appreciated.
Mike
