Hi All.
Will Panther work on our S900? If so, can I install it right over Jaguar? Anyone have any luck with it? It has a few features I wouldn't mind trying but maybe I am asking too much from the machine.
Thanks again.
Jacqueline
I installed Panther as soon as it was available on my Umax. There were some issues with the original version. They were pretty much worked out by 10.3.3 or maybe it was 10.3.4 . I found my self going back to Jaguar a lot until those issues were taken care of. Now you can install 10.3 from the CD and then go right to 10.3.6 using the 10.3.6 combo update. SCIS hard drives don't always work well with the original 10.3 CD version for installing and off and on booting issues once installed. This was a well known issue and was also true for new machines that people had installed SCSI drives in. This issue wasn't a problem for me as I went with ide/ ATA drives years ago. In any case updates have fixed this but it can still be difficult to install from the original 10.3 Cd's on SCSI.
Once the issues were fixed with updates I've been very happy with Panther. I've been using full time since last Feb 04 with few problems. I run Disk Warrior at the first sign of odd problems and that seems to take care of things. There are a lot of small changes from Jaguar that aren't always noticeable at first . Takes a bit of getting used to but now I find I no longer want to use Jaguar. So just like OS 9.x it is now history for me. Panther is faster feeling and tests seem to agree with that.
I would not install Panther over Jaguar. I'd start with a clean slate. I installed on another partition. So I have the use of Jaguar, OS 9.2.2 and Panther. Best of luck and if you have questions I'll try to help. Will S
