The driver says it's for OS 10.2.4 or later, but it is more than a year old, so I suppose it's possible that it does not work with the latest versions of Panther. It also says it needs an Epson PK-4 USB cable; I have an Epson USB Adapter cable, but it doesn't say PK-4, so I suppose that could be a problem.
I followed the installation instructions as closely as I could, although what actually appeared on the screen did not always exactly match the instructions. There seems to be no choice about where the software is installed.
I did find the print quality settings, and printed both sample pages on the same paper and at the highest settings. It still seems to me that the curves in type (the bottom of a "U" for example) are not as smooth in OS X/GIMP-Print as the are in OS 9.1 with the Epson driver.
I'm still learning my way around OS X but maybe I can track down where the Epson components are, and move them if they're not in the same place as the GIMP-print drivers?
My main reason for trying to get the 3000 to work is its large paper size capacity - up to 16 x 20 - and that it's paid for. Honestly, though, I don't use the large sizes very often, and I've been awfully impressed by the quality of the prints from my daughter's $150 Stylus Photo R300, which also has the advantage of 6 inks in separate cartridges. (The 3000 has separate cartridges - really big ones - but only four inks.)
