Be warned. Western Digital Drives are substantially more prone to failure than Seagate and Maxtor.

My regular supplier and I got chatting about return rates on drives and WD is 20-30 greater than the others.

Anecdotes are not statistically valid facts. I'll see your anecdote and raise you 3. I've had Seagates fail. I've had Maxtors fail. I've had WDs fail. I've had IBMs fail.

All are prone to failures. A better place to look for the cause of HD failure is not enough fans cooling them. I've got 3 fans in my main box - 1 blowing right over the drives. All are WD drives. No problems here in several years.

OTOH, I've had a Maxtor and a WD die recently in my B&W G4. It gets very hot in there, and there is no place to put an additional fan.
