Hi,

Updating Avast inadvertently downloaded Google Chrome to my H.D.,
(running Windows XP, SP-3). Now, I cannot delete it. It does not show up
on the list of programs in control panel's section on programs, yet it
is there with a H.D. search. Each time that I attempt toa delete it, I
get a message on screen that it cannot be deleted.

How can I actually delete it from my H.D.?
Any help will be appreciated.

That pesky Avast.
You just clicked too fast. When AVAST reboots it says do you want to install Chrome in a small check box. If your watching you will catch it and uncheck it before it installs.

Not sure what to do now since I have always uncheked it. Have you tried to uninstall AVAST then try to install again and uncheck the install chrome box on the reboot?

Have you googled "uninstall chrome installed when installing AVAST" or something like that?
On this page:
http://www.ghacks.net/2012/02/26/avast-7-will-install-google-chrome-if-you-do-not-pay-attention/

It's written:

If you have installed Google's browser by accident, you can uninstall it again via the uninstall a program control panel applet. You also need to open another browser to make that one the default system browser again.

Note: This is not a good idea to remove some stuff of a program, because the uninstall program may not work due to the non presence of those removed files.
