Hi,

Updating Avast inadvertently downloaded Google Chrome to my H.D.,
(running Windows XP, SP-3). Now, I cannot delete it. It does not show up
on the list of programs in control panel's section on programs, yet it
is there with a H.D. search. Each time that I attempt toa delete it, I
get a message on screen that it cannot be deleted.

How can I actually delete it from my H.D.?
Any help will be appreciated.

1 - Go to the Chrome directory.

2 - Do a 'Select all' (Control A).

3 - Right click on highlighted files and directories.

4 - Click on Delete.

5 - If you get the Admin Permissions error, go to the directory you get the error on and repeat steps 2 - 4.

6 - If you can delete all but one or two files in one or more Chrome sub-directories, do a system restart and repeat the process.

Reason you cannot delete the root directory for Chrome is that some of the sub-directories use 'inherited permissions' and must be removed before the root directory can be removed.

There is a handy tool called 'Take Ownership' which makes resolving this kind of problem very easy. Search for it, read about it, install it, be happy.
