You can change that in the Alix BIOS -- connect at 9600, and boot up. during the Alix memory test, press S to get the BIOS setup menu, choose the serial speed you need (38400). Quit, save, reboot and connect at 38400 for the whole session. However that doesn't sound quite like the original report, especially as his Firebox worked on 1.2.3.
