OK, I spoke too soon.  Making this change is actually a bit tricky, if
I undersstand what's going on here correctly; the reason is that we
pre-stuff the domain field with "gmail.com" when creating the Google
Talk account entry, so when the code looks, I think it's always going
to be there.  The user might change it afterwards, but we don't know
that.  We'd have to keep some extra state to make this happen; it's
going to be fragile, and I don't have time to do it right now.

So ... revert, or leave as it is now?  Does someone want to tackle the
above heuristic?  (I would be inclined to leave it as it is now -- the
google apps scenario is pretty clearly broken no matter how you look
at it, I think.)
