Ethan Blanton spake unto us the following wisdom: > > Maybe we should do this: > > Only set the connect server to talk.google.com when a Google Talk > > account is created that is not @gmail.com or @googlemail.com > > That sounds appropriate. I'll revert my previous commit and change it > to this behavior.
OK, I spoke too soon. Making this change is actually a bit tricky, if I undersstand what's going on here correctly; the reason is that we pre-stuff the domain field with "gmail.com" when creating the Google Talk account entry, so when the code looks, I think it's always going to be there. The user might change it afterwards, but we don't know that. We'd have to keep some extra state to make this happen; it's going to be fragile, and I don't have time to do it right now. So ... revert, or leave as it is now? Does someone want to tackle the above heuristic? (I would be inclined to leave it as it is now -- the google apps scenario is pretty clearly broken no matter how you look at it, I think.) They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. -- Cesare Beccaria, "On Crimes and Punishments", 1764
