One other thing to try when you try to set the card up
as an isa pnp card. There are 2 different settings in
/etc/isapnp.conf for the ethernet card. The irq's and
io's are pretty much straightforward, but on my card (an ne2000)
there was an additional setting called "br" or "bu".
It selects the base address upper or lower limit, or
something similar.
Anyways, if the card isn't initialized at boot time,
try switching from br to bu or vice versa.
On my card one will work, but the other won't.
