Of course the real problem is that there is no de-facto manual for linux.
Once you wade through texinfo files, /usr/doc pages, howtos, mini-howtos,
only to find that the answer is really located on someone's web page, it
can become slightly discouraging.

All I am saying is that mentorship can occur without seeming hostility in
answers. I am a proponent of reading manuals, but that doesn't cause me to
hesitate to give someone a pointer to thier solution. As the old Chinese
proverb goes, "If you catch a fish for a man, you feed him for one day; If
you teach him how to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.".
