Zentara,

Yes, from root, and from user if I do a chmod 755 /dev/lp0.

I don't know about YaST, but lpd starts at boot, lp0 is correctly probed
(at the correct 0x378 address), and is correctly identified as
PC-style. Then, on the last line of dmesg, lp0 is taken offline (the
last line of dmesg's output reads "lp0 off-line"). I don't know if this
is normal or not, but it doesn't affect printing under superuser.

I know about the confusion. There's parallel support in two places in
menuconfig -- "General Setup" and "Character Devices" -- and you also
have to include PC-style for the parallel port somewhere. This threw me
for a loop at first. I decided to compile everything into the kernel,
and again, only printing for user is affected (works fine w/ root).

I don't know if there are other places in menuconfig that I've
overlooked; if there are, pls. let me know.
