Yes, all of these check out.
Since printing is still possible under superuser, unless I can think of
a solution, I'll put this problem to bed and wait for SuSE 6.1 -- or a
message from the support people.
Upgrading via the CD-ROM generally gets rid of problems I've had
compiling new kernels, libraries, and the like . . .
