The last time I got that error was because even though I had the kernel configured
correctly for my network card (ne2000), the problem was with my cdrom card (I had a
old mitsumi) The problem was that the CDcard would grab the irq the network card was
using before it had a chance. Take a look at /var/log/boot.msg and it will tell you
what drivers were loaded and if a Irq was used, which one it was. You may have to
change a few numbers around to get everything to work correctly:-)
