Just switching to linux was a great move in the right direction. I'll get

There is a utility under KDE which allows root to alter the run level
table. You can take apache, ftpd and all that stuff out there. I fail to
recal the name, but look for something like run level editor or something.

Under YaST, in system administration, you can set the security level from
easy to secure. This is a start. To really be up to date on security
problems in linux, check the securioty sites often. Those that spring to
mind are:

www.rootshell.com
www.iss.com
