same for me. HD light on solid, and totally unresponsive. There's a patch linked here: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2039 It's supposed to call the acpi suspend methods for IDE, which linux apparently doesn't do. The newer version still applies to 2.6.17. It didn't help me though. Maybe one of the irq-setup boot options would fix it? I've messed around with 'pci=noacpi' and 'pci=routeirq', but same problem. Also, this system gripes about needing 'pci=assign-busses' but I haven't looked into that. I don't know how you debug a problem that causes your hard drive to lock up while video's still disabled during resume. I have serial on this laptop, maybe that would work. Haven't tried. I only have one clue, and it's weird. I use grub with "default saved" and "savedefault", so whatever kernel was booted last is always the default. I boot into entry 0, attempt suspend-to-ram, and get the frozen-system/no-video/hard-drive-light-on resume lockup. I hold down the power button for a few seconds to power it off. When I turn the system on again, the 2nd entry in the grub menu is now the default! I'm not using grub's "fallback" or "savedefault" with an argument. And anyway, I'm resuming from ram, so grub shouldn't be run at all. And even if grub did run, it would not change the default entry without user interaction. weird.
