Dammit. Stupid me. Both Modi work, s2ram and s2disk (unencrypted into Swap). I have a Intel i945GM graphics chip and suspend works from X and from text mode. I don't use the framebuffer. I use the hibernate package to do all the suspend stuff. Below my "cleaned up" /etc/hibernate/common.conf[1]. Do not try to stop or restart ALSA because it will not work (at least with 2.6.18)!
