E85 is 93% the energy of gasoline (80460 btu/gallon, vs. 87000 btu/gallon) so you will need about 13:1 vs 14:1 a/f. make sure you have ethanol rated hoses and seals.
9:1 a/f is for neat ethanol (E100) I would suggest increasing compression (shave the heads, or thinner head gasket), and adjusting the timing. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Martin Thomas-WLTM07" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "'biofuel@egroups.com'" <biofuel@yahoogroups.com> Sent: Wednesday, February 14, 2001 10:51 AM Subject: [biofuel] New to list > I am new to the list, but I would like to ask a question: > > I am considering converting my carbureted car (1980 Trans AM, 1970 400) to > run on E85. > > What are the drawbacks? > What are the advantages? > What fuel mixture is correct?
