Do you have any links to these methods? In any event, if the demand for lipaze became big enough the price would go down because manufacturers of the stuff could take advantage of an economy of scale. > No harsh chemicals, giant pH leaps, no washing... I know isopropyl alcohol makes the best gas line antifreeze. <sidebar> If you buy your 99% isopropyl alcohol as "rubbing alcohol" in a medical container it's legal to take on an airliner. If you buy the same 99% isopropyl alcohol in an automotive fuel additive container it isn't. Go figure. </sidebar> > > Perhaps alcohol would denature the enzyme and > > shut down the reaction? > Short chain alcohols can damage unstabilized enzymes. But if I can > get the lipase to sit on little pieces of ceramics? Perhaps you could first coat little ceramic beads with a "binder" of some sort and then use that to stick the lipaze to them. On a similar subject, is there any possibility that a metallic catalyst might be used, similar to that found in a catalytic converter? Platinum? Paladium? Electrically charged? Either way, such a thing would make the process -=*MUCH*=- easier. -- Aviation is more than a hobby. It is more than a job. It is more than a career. Aviation is a way of life.
