Philo Agora's talk next Tuesday March1, will be Tim Dean: Evolution
and Moral Ecology
Why is it people of different moral persuasions - such as liberals
and conservatives - just can't seem to see eye to eye on many issues?
The latest research in evolutionary biology, moral and political
psychology and game theory suggests a startling revelation: we have
an evolved moral faculty, but that this faculty operates in different
ways in different people - and it does so for very good evolutionary
reasons. The end result is a 'moral ecology', with a vast plurality
of moral approaches that enables us to respond to a wide range of
environmental situations.
Tim Dean is a PhD candidate in philosophy researching evolution and
moral diversity. He's also an award winning science journalist and
editor of Australian Life Scientist magazine
Also on the same program , at 7.15 pm, will be the presentation of
the Philo Agora Award for 2010 to Skye Cleary for her talk 'Sartre on
Romantic Loving Relationships' available on our website .. The Philo
Agora Award will also run in 2011

The entrance fee of $6.00 includes a free cup of coffee or tea.
Start at 7.30. Finish at 9.00pm. Good snack meals are available but
If you want a meal, come a little earlier than usual, and also cheer

along New Canterbury Road or Marrickville Rd (426 & 428). There is
also ample parking in the Council car parks across the street and
