> 1. Suggest it (which involves entering the URL of your RSS File). > (http://www.syndic8.com/suggest_start.php - requires registration)
The reason it requires registration is to cut down on hit-and-run spammers. Having a login at least slows the scammers from polluting the database. It certainly doesn't stop them but that's also why we use manual approvals by real people, not automated. Bear in mind, pings can be submitted without a login (currently). > 2. Email this list and say here is the URL of my RSS file. (requires no > registration, but an email with a smile) And personal requests get immediate attention. Ask and ye shall recieve, so to speak. > Now that is the simple version of the process Yep, nicely summarized! > Why would a website want to put that in? Ah metadata, that long neglected wonder. It's really a tragic sort of chicken-and-egg situation. Without enough sites using metadata it's hard to give accurate search results (at least not without a LOT of guesswork). That and there's no mechanism for including it directly inside a feed itself. Which is actually sort of a good thing. But we'd have to wander down a long road discussing the merits of RDF and such to solve that puzzle. > So the more information you providing in your meta tags/ RSS fields (RDF > ??), the better. Most definitely, we do keep tabs on how the addition of metadata is going. Slowly, sad to say. But as more sites use it we'll be able to do more with it. -Bill Kearney Syndic8.com If you're getting "too much mail" then send a message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (this will tell it to stop sending you mail) To change your membership use THIS WEB PAGE: http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/syndic8/join (here you can set your mail to digest, no mail or LEAVE the list) To find more info about Syndicated XML newsfeeds visit http://www.syndic8.com/ Yahoo!
