I can't speak for Tommie Smith and Bob Hayes, but none of the other guys are
any great shakes with handoffs. Lewis and Marsh ran a lot of relays, and
Drummond has had some great leadoff legs, but none of them has proven they
can hand off as well as a top high school team - they simply don't get the
practice.

I have to believe it is even after two legs or Greene's team slightly ahead.
Drummond might indeed have a slight edge over Marsh, even with Marsh at his
peak, but Greene would absolutely toast Brown on the straight.

For the third leg, no way does Calvin beat Tommie on the curve. At best,
the teams are even.

The Hayes vs Lewis matchup is one of those ageless questions that can never
be answered - throw Jesse Owens in there as well. I have never seen anyone
who could run a 100 as well as Carl Lewis with a running start, but I've
heard people say they've never seen anyone run like Hayes.

If you raced the two squads ten times, you'd probably see 6-4 in favor of
the Lewis team - their superior all-out speed would give them the edge, but
they'd lose their share.
