I meant to say: add a note=* tag explaining the situation. Otherwise it
indeed wouldn't help, but when you succintly explain the situation, you
help not only future armchair mappers, but even local mappers that don't
need to go there to verify the situation.
I put such a tag on every feature that seems out of place to me, when I
personally verify it is correct. (a housenumber in the wrong side of the
road, a road crossing others in a strange way, etc)
IMO, this is more useful than adding a source=* tag.

By the way, the iD editor shows the note to mappers that select the object,
even if they don't click to see all tags. (source=* is also shown)
