I had a dos computer that I used for stuff until about six years ago. I
gave it to somebody else who wanted it. Pam.

oh goodie!!!!! Another "dos is dead" message. I hadn't seen that one
in quite a while. I still have machines I run dos on and there are
programs I run on those that windows can't touch or do. Xp isn't
supported, but it still works for much of what I do and that is really
all that matters. I'm going to run something in dos for a while while
you have another glass of that microsoft cool aid. I may go fire up my
apple 2 e just to remind me of the days when computing was really fun
and stuff was written to talk and it talked well. I haven't even come
close to finding a program as cool as file-talk for windows machines.

give windows 8.1 a chance. it only took me a few weeks to learn the ropes.
i will never go back to xp. compared to windows 7 and 8.1 it is a dead
dinasore.
just like dos is dead.
you will find fewer and fewer new periphials or software that will support
xp. the stuf you find in most big box stores is old, discontinued
periphials. like the new printer i bought. it was new, but 3 year old
discontinued tecnology.
move on. everything and everyone is going to apps and windows 8.1 and 10
are the only windows versions that will support this tecnology.
as for wineyes, i hope i squared is working on fixing all the problems
they created with the w e 9 re write.
they have rendered firefox useless. it hangs both firefox and w e every
time i want to open the bookmark list. it keeps repeating every other line
of text it finds on web pages. i can not get the food prices on the
shop.safeway.com site anymore.
i have no problems with any of the above useing nvda.
i don't like i e 11. unlike firefox i can not do a search for links i have
saved in the favorites list. this is what i use the most when looking for
things i have saved for later.

Honestly, if I had been smart, I would of stayed with XP and WE 8.4.
that, in my opinion, was the best set up and I hardly had a problem. Now,
I have WE 9.0 and Office 2010 and a new computer and am so sorry I
changed.

Dear List, especially XP users:
Until I can get a newer computer, I am still using Windows XP. I realize
it has not been tested for Window-eyes nine. Those who are still using
windows XP, have you stayed with window-eyes 8.4 or have you taken a
chance with version nine. Your answers will help me decide whether to
wait or upgrade to the newest window-eyes. Thanks for your experiences
regarding this. Regards: Ted Larson
