when ever there is a problem the first thing that gets asked is are you
running the latest firmware.

listfollowing firmware update one72."]
I'm curious. Where did you see this recommendation from Nuance, and was it
specific to Talks? I know you've had to update certain levels of firmware
on
some phones to fix some specific issues, but I don't recall ever seeing a
blanket recommendation from Nuance to always update to the latest level of
firmware, but I could have easily missed it.
IMHO, I think Nuance should stick to levels of firmware it has been able
to
test and keep its recommendations to combinations of Talks and firmware
levels it knows works. Obviously, Nuance can't test every level of Talks
with every level of firmware on every phone, so this list would be pretty
sparse.
For my part, unless there's something I'm specifically looking for in a
firmware update, I stick with the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Philosophy. This doesn't mean I don't update my firmware, but when you add
in accessibility software, there are just too many variables and too many
things can go wrong. I'll make sure there's something in the firmware I
want, make sure I have a good backup and make sure I know how to roll back
if anything goes wrong.

I will be in future but even Nuance recommends running the latest firmware
on your handset.

This is the reason why I am extremely reluckton to update firmware if
phone is working wonderfully. I am still using V10 on my N79. I never
see any difference with my friends who are using V30 in their phone.
Furthermore, upgraded to latest will always have some trouble with Talks.
Especially the Symbol reading and so on. So, the best is wait for Talks
release with the firmware already out. Then we might not face such
symbol
reading problems.

I think Nuance needs to address this issue. I've seen other people
mention this problem. Since updating to the latest firmware for my e72
talks will no longer speak the symbol list it just says c every time you
press the arrow keys and when you go in to the different pages of symbols
you hear 1/2 c or 1/1 c. I was writing an email message when I
discovered
this problem and I have seen other mentions on the list with other phone
models. Sure you can use some symbols on the keyboard but access for
most
symbols does not seem possible.
