It's not a problem with tar.gz and file outside temp root.
I didn't find a place where taskcoach.desktop is copied to 
/usr/share/applications/ in "setup.py install", but after that and 
desktop-file-install in temp root 
(/var/tmp/taskcoach-0.70.0-1.fc8-root-*) there are two files:
     `-- share
         |-- applications
         |   |-- fedora-taskcoach.desktop
         |   `-- taskcoach.desktop


Is it built properly on your Fedora?
