  Ok, I see what you mean now. I tried your little test again, but this
  time I turned the auto-format option off.

  Another thing I noticed, is that when you turn auto-format off from
  the new message menu under Utilities, it only turns auto-format off in
  that one paragraph.

  As soon as you start another paragraph, the auto-format option is back
  on again. Is that the way it was meant to be?
