The strange thing is that it suddenly happened without changes in my TheBat version settings etc. I noticed it yesterday evening at home and it is still not working, also with Voyager at work. What I suppose is that there might be a problem with certificates on the email provider side concerning SMTP? Or did 1&1 change something and gmx and web.de use the 1&1 smtp/route whatever (because my accounts are on web.de, gmx and 1&1)?
