Both are correct, depending upon circumstance and context.

Exactly right. However, right now all we have is the latter and it
certainly doesn't usually even look like the original once it gets
pasted anyway (depending upon source).

:-) possibly - but IMHO the way it is implemented /breaks/ the edit
window's auto-format and line wrap settings. For me that's what turns
it from an inconvenience into a bug. If it were software *I* had
written a problem like that would go in the "bugs to fix" list, not
the "features to be improved upon" list.
