While I agree the ticker can be intrusive, I've relegated it to a
corner of my desktop & it only appears automatically when a
limited type of msgs are rcvd, i.e. high priority & one other
folder otherwise it is not triggered to appear. When those types
of msgs do come in, dbl clicking on the ticker is a convenient
way to read & reply to those msgs. Obviously nothing I've said
here addresses cosmetic changes, only issues of intrusion.
