I think the formal recognition gains value not by being formal, but by
having some meaning behind it. Being the rock-paper-scissors champion
might get you on the 6:00 news, but beyond that, so what?

I'd say that the STC leadership must also provoke participation. Where
is, as Patrick Lencioni puts it, the "compelling context for working
together"?
