One concern though: can you benchmark ./build.sh on a machine with 8 or more CPUs? I fear that vcache.lock might be a bit contended and we ought to figure out how much. If the contention is not significant, it should be fine for now. I can do this if you really want, but I doubt it'll make a difference unless your src and obj trees are spread across multiple different types of file systems, because currently for ufs, ufs_ihashlock and ufs_hashlock are just as contended as vcache.lock would be.
