Well, that cleared up where the SuperMicro name in this thread came
from. I was confused before this post, but then I've never seen an SM
case in person. Our campus security shop uses Silicon Mechanics for core
network intrusion detection, including one with 10GB ethernet cards for
the internet POP.

My shop uses IBM Intel-based hardware because we were an IBM shop before
linux. I really like my remote service adapters (RSA) and I'm O.K. with
the newer integrated management module (IMM). Our service is generally
good, though it depends on the individual service person. At the hot
backup site, there's one person, and she is terrific. At the main site,
we sometimes call at the end of business so we get the late-night and
weekend tech, also a great service person. None of the techs is bad or
stupid, but the guy who retired 18 months ago was stellar, so everyone
else has a high bar for comparison.
