I just looked over a couple of 178 and 179 chassis sets. My opinion is that the plastic bracket is to prevent pressure on the back panel from breaking the main pcb. The back panel is mounted on a metal frame which in turn is resting on the main pcb. How much treasure would be required to actually cause damage? I pressed pretty hard on the back panel and the main board barely flexes, and that is with the chassis out of the carrier tray.

Some shops use a soldering iron or other method to remove plastic strips from the bottom of some PCB carrier trays. I find that MUCH more of a problem than this.

While I have always replaced the plastic brackets I don't see any realist purpose for them.

I think someone is trying to stir something up.

Hello group, I'm having a little customer problem here
that maybe someone can verify what another shop said is
true.

A RCA projo PTK178LA has a plastic support bracket on
top of the chassis. Well I may have removed that in the
shop when the unit was serviced almost 2 years ago and
supposedly didn't put it back on.

Apparently the unit needed service again and this other
shop said that "without that plastic bracket, the circuits
would get fried if the TV was moved". So now the customer
is wanting me to supply him with the bracket.

I think that the other shop greatly over exaggerated the
importance of this piece. What do you all say?

I realize the importance of it for "shipping" purposes
from the factory to the retailer and on down but this
seems a little extreme.

They also say that it is NLA. So if I'm on the hook for
this, maybe someone can supply a part number so I can
maybe come up with one somewhere.

Thanks for any info,
