Hi,

I'm unable to install tetex on a computer running Mandrake linux 9.1. When I
try to run texconfig after installation, I get the following error message:

/usr/bin/texconfig: No $TEXMFMAIN in texmf.cnf file.
/usr/bin/texconfig: set TEXMFCNF variable to the directory where teTeX's
texmf.cnf file is in.

Judging from a few other posts I was able to find, this seems to indicate that
texconfig is unable to find the texmf.cnf file. I have verified that the file
exists in my /usr/local/teTeX/texmf/web2c directory. Additionally, I don't
believe that the problem is due to environment variable conflicts, since

env | egrep "TEX|texmf"

produces no output.

However, the /etc/texmf directory apparently never was created, which seems like
it might be the problem. But I'm not sure at what step in the process it is
supposed to get created (actually, I'm not even sure it does get created for
Mandrake - most relevant posts I saw were for other distributions). Grepping
the source files for /etc/texmf didn't seem to help:

egrep -R "/etc/texmf" /usr/local/src/tetex-src-2.0.2/*

produces no output.

Any help would be very greatly appreciated.

Nick
