For most Hotmail users the POP/SMTP service is fine. Remember, once in a while, to go to the web interface to check for any mail that is in your Junk folder.
The extension remains useful for those wanting to access the Junk and custom folders as well as for those who are in an environment that prevents them using the secure ports required to access the Hotmail POP/SMTP service.
