Perhaps I should be a bit more clear.

The latest set of Hotmail changes have posed more than one problem for
the Webmail Author.

There was the frequently experienced problem of a failure to be able
to log in to the Hotmail service. This has happened time and again
with changes to Hotmail and usually only represents a small delay in
service before a solution provided by the Webmail Author..

There was a second and much more severe problem with the inability of
some Hotmail users to be able to access the "view message source"
function of the Hotmail service that is vital to the Webmail Author's
ability to access the message database and translate the message from
html to POP for Thunderbird. It is this second problem for which the
GZIP/deflate workaround allows those users affected to restore the
ability of the Hotmail add-on to access the message source in Hotmail
and restore the email download service.
