OK, if the law[1] directs compliance with a specific set of keys (and 
technology), we just have to make sure we support it.

Yet, it is not "bad news", as the article suggests, but good news for us that 
do have the necessary tools to impement a solution. Perhaps, those state 
workers that have not been accustomed to this technology, will have some hard 
time. 

In legal terms and according to some international documents I had come across 
at the past, the main idea was not to name a specific technology, but the 
process of its verification. That is, if you have a known algorithm, and can 
find a third party that will hold your public keys and verify you, that's 
enough.

[1] or even the authority (say, the Bundesamt), that chooses to go with 256-bit 
RSA..
