Just to ensure nobody gets confused, you do not have to pay anything extra to have lots of charts in JasperReports / iReport. > And what is the best, if you know how to use OOo (or at least M$ Word and > Excel), then you know 75% of reporting. > > About complexity of tasks, I would not say that standard office package, > which is being used by ordinary users all around the world, would be more > complicated, than iReport with X-paths and Java on any task. Again, just to ensure there's no confusiong: xpath knowledge is not necessary for creating reports with jasper_reports module. That said, I think both reporting engines are necessary. Some cover unique areas: for example OO is usually much better when creating letters and formatted text while Jasper Reports is much better when you need to print in fixed positions. But of course, some reports can be done with both of them and it's just a matter of user preferences. I don't think much discussion will bring a conclusing to say one is better to the other. Take proprietary ERPs, for example, most good ones I've seen handle both Crystal Reports based and Word based reports, just because they cover different needs. -- Albert Cervera i Areny http://www.NaN-tic.com OpenERP Partner Mòbil: +34 669 40 40 18
