David Bengtson a crit :

If I'm not mistaken, Zigbee and Mote's have common radio output
powers. They should have the same range.

Yes I've a look at the specification. That's correct.

What I didn't find interesting at all is the price of a module (radio
module + sensor module) which is much more expensive the the sum of the
components they are made of.

They have to pay for their engineer's somehow :-)

Everybody has to pay. But to which extend ?
Take a look at the Sylvania products (www.smarthome.com/1129.html).
The system is the same as for Xbow : a radio chip, a microcontroller, memory, sensors and actuators.
I don't think that ZenSys, which is the promoter of the Z-Wave technology, already sold thousands of their products.
However their price list is very affordable :
a plug-in appliance for a 15A plug is only $40, public price !
a plug-in for a lamp : $35 and
a Z-wave USB interface : $60.

That are correct public prices. I let you imagine what they are on the OEM market.

I'm trying to have a contact within XBow here in france in order to try to push them into this market.
I don't think they are very aware of the capabilities of their modules outside their own market.

Thank you David,
