one other thought.. if you have an alternative cable, could you try it? I wouldn't really have expected a cable problem, but I guess in theory a bad HDMI cable could cause the same result.
Anyways, IIRC, you are seeing this with multiple monitors/TVs which makes me not suspect an issue with particular display. That just leaves the sw DDC pull-up issue I mentioned (which should be fixed in latest kernels, as far as I know), or hw issue (cable or board). The resulting screen resolution was only 720×576@50 and xbmc does not offer any further resolutions or refresh rates. The EDID sent by the Yamaha AVR includes many resolutions up to 1080p (verified with SwitchResX on a MacBook).
