Both TiVo and ReplayTV formed in 1997, ReplayTV announced their product publically a little bit earlier. Both exhibited at CES 1999 and launched products commercial that year - TiVo came to market first, shipping units at the end of March. ReplayTV shipped limited numbers of units in April, but they really didn't start shipping normally until later.
