And if the signal is too 'hot', you can pick up attenuators at Radio Shack cheap - for that matter putting splitters in the line also cuts the strength (which is why too many splitters can cause problems). Splitters tend to cut signal by -3db to -6db depending on the quality and type - they're usually labeled. > Unfortunately, AT&T is my FIOS option, they don't use cable cards, and they > > don't offer it yet anyway. > FiOS is Verzion, that's their brand name for their fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) service. AT&T has U-Verse, which is fiber-to-the-node (FTTN) - they don't run fiber into your home, but rather to a distribution box in the neighborhood, then they use VDSL to deliver the signal to the home. That means the total bandwidth into your home is much, much lower than FiOS. While FiOS works like cable and delivers all of the channels into your home, where you then tune them, U-Verse is IPTV and only sends all the channels to the node. When you use their STB to tune something it actually talks to that node and the tuning happens there, then only the channel(s) you've tuned are delivered to your home over the VDSL link. FTTN is cheaper to build out, but has more limitations. FTTH has a lot of up-front cost, but once in place the fiber provides a lot of future growth. -- [email protected] / [email protected] Geek, Gweep, Technophile, me. www.GizmoLovers.com / www.MegaZone.org / www.Eyrie-Productions.com Hail Eris Twitter.com/megazone / Facebook.com/megazone / www.LinkedIn.com/in/megazone "A little nonsense now and then, is relished by the wisest men" 432-363-4296 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
