I'm skeptical if it will make any difference to the audio output, I just think it will take some load of the Touch making the menu navigation faster and causing less number of spontaneous reboots.
If you are looking for performance, a Vortexbox solution is probably going to be faster than a Sheevaplug, the main(only?) reason to choose the Sheevaplug is probably the price difference. However, if you are looking into optimizing the audio quality by using WAV instead of FLAC, I suspect you have connected the the Touch to really high-end equipment and in that case I suspect the price difference isn't an issue. woodnut;561668 Wrote: > > Would I be able to do all the Flac decoding on the sheeva as > recommended in soundchecks SB Touch Mods blog? Has anyone really been able to hear any difference between WAV and FLAC in a A/B blind test ? I believe the Touch CPU is a lot faster than the old CPU used in Classic/Boom/Transporter and even on those devices the FLAC decoding doesn't cause enough CPU usage to be a problem. Using an external server, for example a Sheevaplug, to run the Squeezebox Server software on instead of using the built-in server should make a lot bigger difference regarding CPU usage. If you give us a bit more information about which equipment the Touch is connected to it's a bit easier to give you recommendations. -- erland Erland Isaksson ('My homepage' (http://erland.isaksson.info)) (Developer of 'many plugins/applets' (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/User:Erland).
