I suspect the performance are going to be better with the Sheevaplug
but I haven't really verified this myself. I'm skeptical if it will
make any difference to the audio output, I just think it will take some
load of the Touch making the menu navigation faster and causing less
number of spontaneous reboots.

If you are looking for performance, a Vortexbox solution is probably
going to be faster than a Sheevaplug, the main(only?) reason to choose
the Sheevaplug is probably the price difference. However, if you are
looking into optimizing the audio quality by using WAV instead of FLAC,
I suspect you have connected the the Touch to really high-end equipment
and in that case I suspect the price difference isn't an issue.

I'm very skeptical if FLAC decoding on the server side really will
improve the audio quality. Has anyone really been able to hear any
difference between WAV and FLAC in a A/B blind test ?

I believe the Touch CPU is a lot faster than the old CPU used in
Classic/Boom/Transporter and even on those devices the FLAC decoding
doesn't cause enough CPU usage to be a problem. Using an external
server, for example a Sheevaplug, to run the Squeezebox Server software
on instead of using the built-in server should make a lot bigger
difference regarding CPU usage.

If you give us a bit more information about which equipment the Touch
is connected to it's a bit easier to give you recommendations.
