Regardless of the sampling rate, if a 16 bit word is padded with zeros
to make a 24 bit word then truncated back to a 16 bit word at the DAC
then your not losing resolution. If the starting point was a 24 bit
word where the LSB's contained real data then your going to lose
resolution if they are truncated at the DAC.
