That's an excellent point. Thanks for bringing it up. This gives me
(hopefully) an opportunity to revise my statements: in the absence of
measurements, people rely on deductive reasoning, more so than on
empirical evidence. And that's precisely my beef.

For example, we have recently had one member here calling bullshit on
Soundcheck's mods because he claims that he is a computer programmer
and that, from the standpoint of the source code, there couldn't
possibly be any differences.

That's what I call deductive reasoning. A person refuses to look into
empirical evidence, and is pre-emptivelly taking a stance. Good for
him.

I, on the other hand, prefer to rely on empirical evidence, as it gets
presented to my senses. That's all. And please, don't misconstrue this
as me insisting that everyone must follow my lead. All I'm saying is,
here's my set of preferences, please respect them, and I will in turn
respect your set of preferences.

I'm not predicting that they will be shoddy, I'm just predicting that,
correct and impeccable as they may be, they'll be largely irrelevant to
me.

Like for example, if I listen to two different configurations and I
can't hear any differences between the two, while at the same time you
present me with measuring results that plainly and convincingly
demonstrate huge differences between these two configurations, I will
remain completely unimpressed. Why? Because, to me, it means absolutely
nothing. If I can't hear it, I'm not buying it, period.

And vice versa, of course.
