Hi there,

While the nettop makes its way to my end of the world, I decided to
check on the forum and to let you know what improvements I managed to
achieve so far.

Thanks Mnyb for your interest. As you said I "should be able to manage
with one good quality router". The Touch was supposed to work without
much fuzz and look how messy it has been for us gullible owners when
tried to use the Tiny SOB.

"how do you get internet phone line ,cable , USB dongle conected to the
PC.
Do your ISP provide a modem or router of some sort, wonder how this one
is setup to work ? "

Telefonica is one of the worse provider you can ever encounter. But it
is the only provider available. (Third-world stuff you don't really
need to know about.) The telephone line gets in my house and gets
plugged directly into a Huawei "EchoLife Home Gateway", a wireless
router. I get the phone and the Internet access then sorted out.

At this very moment I'm hearing a superb Talking Heads vinyl rip using
a temporary setup as follows:

My laptop computer streams wireless to the router, which is connected
to the Touch via Ethernet. So I made a major improvement, I'm very
glad. I know it seems basic for you forum folks, but I wasn't looking
forward to do much tweaking before buying the Touch.

In partial compliance to Soundcheck's advice, I'm now streaming PCM to
the router, by using my laptop both for running the server software and
to decode the flacs. I applied the rest of his recommended tweaks (but
the screen off one) and guess what: This sounds so much better than
before it is incredible!

For those who aren't fans of modding: Please remember I bought the darn
thing to hear music directly from a powered USB HDD and from a 32GB SD
card (the last I purchased exclusively for that purpose).

That said, as soon as the second computer arrives, I'm preparing myself
to keep spending money on my setup. I'll buy a second wireless router
and apply again Soundcheck's toolbox. I'll use a second router because
the Internet access used to fail and now the added traffic sometimes
interrupts both the music playback AND my downloads.

To me, the Touch is a very deceitful and deceptive marketing mashup. I
wouldn't ever recommend anyone to spend any money on it without having
in mind that this purchase would require to (at least) double the
investment to make it work properly. Let alone the money you need to
make it work and the time most of us had to spend in trying to get a
decent performance out of it, it is almost unbelievable that the
modding done by users works! Seriously, add to that the faulty updates
and what do we get? An Apple product designed and developed by the
Spanish Inquisition.

And nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!

I guess I'll write one more time when I get everything sorted out or to
ask the valuable members of this forum for some more help.
